Flying rubber ducks

A rubber duck racer from Wellington and his team mate gave a great performance at the recent Trans Atlantic Longhaul race.

The race which spands from Strandfontein along the West Coast and finishes at Melkbosstrand saw Steyn Basson and his pilot from Strand, Helgo Hohenstein, come second in the modified-class.

What makes this achievement extra special is that they managed to finish ahead of the Protea racing team of Marius Lodewyk and Hennie de Bod.

“This race is in preparation of the Trans Agulhas race which takes place in December,” says Basson and adds that they hope to do even better in this, the biggest rubber duck event in the country.

The second position is on the back of the third place they achieved at the Strand Club race - a surf race.

“We are currently without a sponsor and if any person or business wishes to help us out they can contact me on 084-556-4498," said
Basson this week.
