LOCAL conductor Milton Pietersen of the Frank Pietersen Music Centre is one of six conductors benefiting from master classes presented by Prof Victor Yampolsky.

Professor of Music and Director of Orchestras at Northwestern University, Illinois, Yampolsky is at present the guest conductor for the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra.

During his stay in Cape Town, he is conducting conductors’ master classes with young, aspiring conductors in the Western Cape.

This forms part of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra’s Outreach and Development Programme.

The six conductors benefiting from Maestro Yampolsky’s expertise are Brandon Phillips (Conductor: Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra), Paul Chandler (conductor: Cape Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensemble), Rudolf Engel (Conductor: Moravian Brass Bands), Milton Pietersen (Conductor: Frank Pietersen Music Centre Symphony Orchestra), Daniel Fritz (conductor: Bonteheuwel community orchestra), Gerhard de Jager (Hugo Lambrecht Music Centre).

The conductors’ master classes took place at Artscape, but Maestro Yampolsky also visited the Frank Pietersen Music Centre in Paarl.

Milton Pietersen has also been invited to conduct the Reserve Windband of The National Youth Orchestra Course being held at University of Cape Town in July 2006.
