Pearl Valley Estate funds Bridge House bursaries
2005-12-08
THE Bridge House School in Franschhoek has long had a vision of broadening access to the school to enable deserving children from local communities to attend Bridge House. Over the past ten years of the school’s existence, this vision has been pursued through the funding, by donors, of their Bursary Programme. Apart from the opportunity that a bursary affords the recipient, all the pupils benefit from the greater racial, cultural and socio-economic diversity that the Programme brings to the school. Recently the Pearl Valley Golf Estate committed to funding two full five-year bursaries, to the amount of R200 000, for two disadvantaged students from the local community to attend the Bridge House School in Franschhoek. These bursaries will enable these two children to be involved in the sporting and cultural programmes at the school and pay their tuition fees for the five year duration of their secondary school career. They have been enrolled in the Bursary Programme 2006. Through the generosity and commitment of benefactors who have made donations to the Bursary Fund, Bridge House has been able to offer talented children from disadvantaged backgrounds in the Franschhoek valley, the opportunity of attending the school. To date, these children have excelled in a wide sphere of activities. The school has benefited immensely and believes that the bursary students, in turn, have reaped the benefits of the education offered at Bridge House. A large proportion of bursary students have taken a prominent role in student leadership in the school; in the field of sport, bursary students have achieved provincial colours and given substance to the sports teams. Culturally the school has been privileged to have the finest actors and musicians amongst its bursary students.
