Drakenstein soccer clubs unite
2005-12-14
THINGS are on track to streamline the governance of soccer in the province by SAFA Boland that will start from 1 January 2006.
The first annual general meeting of the newly established Drakenstein Local Football Association (DLFA) was held recently.
This DLFA was born after the merger of two former local soccer associations, the Drakenstein Soccer Associaton (governing clubs in Paarl under die auspices of Boland Soccer Association) and the Paarl Football Association (consisting of clubs in Mbekweni playing under SAFA WP).
At the meeting 20 clubs from Paarl, Wellington, Mbekweni, Gouda and Suider-Paarl joined the Drakenstein Local Football Association.
It was furthermore clear that the clubs were enthusiastic to play in the new league against teams of different races and cultures.
The new executive was also elected and will function for the next four years under the chairmanship of Sithembele Kaba. The rest of the board are Lutfie Hendricks (vice-chairman), Kuna Tjewula (secretary), Amira Hendricks (treasurer), with additional members Micheal Blaauw, Jonathan Liebenberg, Luvuyo Nkewu, Connie Baba, Ronald Cupido, Sivuyile Sanda, Thomos Bell and N Ntsunguza.
Clubs who are interested in joining the DLFA can contact Amira Hendricks on 872-32
