Jazz: “Jazz on Friday” will take place every Friday evening until 31 March at the La Grange Gallery & Fromagerie Restaurant,13 Danel Hugo Street in Franschhoek. The La Fromagerie Jazz Band will play from 17:30 to 20:30 and the cost is R100 per couple which includes a bottle of wine. Cheese platters will be available for R60/platter. Bookings are recommended and the tables will be held until 18:00. Phone 876-2155.

Gallery: A Christmas exhibition can be seen at the Dorp Street Gallery in Stellenbosch until 24 December. Artists are Hardy Botha, Hettie de Klerk, Laura du Toit, Lara Kruger, Fana Malherbe, Lyn Smuts, Vernon Swarts, Shany van den Berg, Jan Visser and Evette Weyers. Enquiries: 887-2256.
Collaboration: High above the Cape Town CBD, in adjacent studios, two young South African artists, Matthew Hindley and Peter Eastman, are collaborating in a unique and exciting painting project to be showcased at 34 Long Fine Art until 14 January. Hindley is known for his multi-media physical computing installations, such as ‘Speak Naturally and Continuously’ which graces the facade of the SA National Gallery as well as his psychologically challenging, but essentially witty and self-depreciating paintings, drawings, sculpture and prints seen in several major exhibitions recently. In contrast Eastman is known for his somewhat serious, frequently minimalist landscapes and quiet painterly studies. Their new collaboration sees Eastman’s landscapes, off road scenes, eerie nighttime sites (a favourite subject), even the view from their studio balcony, having Hindley’s nightmarish Freudian dream world interrupting them. Jazz: Rus Nerwich has returned from Buenos Aires to once again treat jazz enthusiasts to true listening pleasure. This Trio breaks tradition, following a unique and challenging format mixing double base, saxophone and drums. It makes for interesting musical listening.
