Chamber music recitals in Franschhoek

AT the beginning of January two musicians from Amsterdam and Pretoria, Anne-Bartje Fontein (viola) and Mareli Stolp (piano) will be giving chamber music recitals in the Western Cape, from Franschhoek to Mossel Bay.
Both women have ties with South Africa and they are very keen to perform in this part of our country.
The programme will include pieces by Debussy, Schumann, Schubert and Bach - music that will appeal to the audience!
On Thursday 5 January they will be playing at the DR Church in Franschhoek. Other performances will take place in Bredasdorp, Napier, Greyton and Mossel Bay.
Anne-Bartje was eight years old when she started her violin studies with Coosje Wijzenbeek, the leading violin teacher of young people in the Netherlands.
She finished at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam in 2003 and at the moment she is in her last year of the “Advanced Programme” at the same Conservatorium (a student of Nobuko Imai).
Anne-Bartje got to know Franschhoek well when her parents emigrated to South Africa/Franschhoek in 2000 (they now live in Bredasdorp).
Mareli was born and bred in South Africa, in Pretoria she completed her Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Honours degrees, both cum laude.
In South Africa she was the recipient of numerous prizes and scholarships, the Unisa South African Music Study Scholarship, the Vladimir Viardo Prize, the Samro Prize and the Pretorium Trust Music Scholarships in 2002 and 2003.
At present she is continuing her studies at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam.
Mareli has a “local connection”: she is second cousin to Charlotte Daneel of “La Grange”.
The recital at the DR Church in Huguenot Road will start at 19:00.
