THE Cape Town City Ballet presents Veronica Paeper’s full-length production of Carmen at Maynardville’s Open-air Theatre from 22 January to 19 February (Sundays only).
Three couples will alternate as the fiery gypsy Carmen and her jealous lover Don Jose in this powerful and dramatic danced version of Bizet’s much-loved opera, Carmen, which includes such popular pieces of music as the rousing Toreador and the famous sultry Habanera.
Marianne Bauer and real-life husband Coert Grobbelaar can be seen in the principle roles on Sunday 22 January. Tracy Li and Daniel Rajna perform on the Sunday 29 January and Lara Turk and Lee Fennell make their debut as a Cape Town City Ballet principal couple on Sunday 5 February.
The production features the entire Cape Town City Ballet and is costumed by Peter Cazalet. Traditionally very popular, these performances sell out very quickly.
