Whimsical physical theatre
2006-01-12
SYLVAINE STRIKE is the recent winner of the Standard Bank 2006 Young Artist Award for Drama.
Her latest play, The Travellers, is a miniature journey of astounding theatrical magnitude, is lighting up the Baxter Theatre stage until 28 January.
Award-winning actress, producer, director and creator of such gems as Baobabs Don’t Grow Here and Black and Blue, Strike has assembled a multi-talented and quirky cast consisting of Toni Morkel (Robyn Orlin veteran), Shelley Meskin (Fame, Honour) and Daniel Buckland (Fuse, Plunge).
The Travellers was the hit of the Fringe at the 2005 National Arts Festival, where it was promptly invited to the Adelaide Fringe and a two-week tour of Sydney, Australia.
In the play we meet the Frosts, a delightfully strange nuclear family. We witness their lives in front of and behind the curtain and succumb to the devastating charm of their illusions and delusions.
On a small stage in an abandoned world, Myrtle Frost, played by Toni Morkel, is the manager and Grande Dame of the “Frost Theatricals” travelling players.
On a minuscule stage, The Travellers is a voyage of astounding theatrical magnitude, guaranteed to leave the audience reeling. Book at Computicket.
