Behind the Mask in forest
2006-01-12
NEXT week, after having rained out last year, the musical tribute “Behind the Mask” will be presented at the Paul Cluver forest amfitheatre at Grabouw.
The dynamic musical is a tribute to the songs of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Freddie Mercury, Robbie Williams and more.
The brilliance of the voices of Rory Rootenberg and Lana English are spell-binding, so much so that the show was called the surprise hit of the 2005 Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees.
Rootenberg and English both performed in the local version of “The Phantom of the Opera” at Artscape.
Here they are assisted by Ian von Memerty as artistic consultant, while the director and scriptwriter is Michelle Simpson.
Dowwe Dolla (Margit Meyer-Rodenbeck) performs in the opening act, with comedy sketches from her various one-woman shows.
The Paul Cluver forest amphitheatre hosts “Behind the Mask” and Dowwe Dolla for one show only, so book your seats for 21 January at www.cluver.com. Enquiries at 844-0605.
Tickets cost R85. Bring a picnic basket or order one from the estate. Refreshments and Paul Cluver wines will be on sale.
Gates open at 17:00, with the show starting at 19:00. * Arno Carstens performs there on Saturday evening.
