Fewer A’s for matrics this year

A TOTAL of 155 local matrics achieved A aggregates in the final examination last year (down from 165 the previous year).
The shining star among them was Frances Müller of Paarl Gymnasium High, who was second in the province’s top twenty students. She passed all seven her subjects with distinctions including full marks for Mathematics.
Gymnasium had a total of 45 matrics who passed with distinctions in a class of 202 (22%) with one failure.
At Paarl Girls’ High there were 15 A aggregates (20% of the class), with no failures. Huguenot High produced 28 A students (18%) with no failures.
Paarl Boys’ High’s crop consisted of 29 A students (25%), while La Rochelle produced 16 A students (16%).
Other schools with A students were Klein Nederburg (8), Labori (7), Boland Agricultural High (4), New Orleans (1), Paulus Joubert (1) and Franschhoek High and Kylemore High (1). See pics on page 14 and 15. The pass rates of the other schools were Berg River 86%, Groendal 85,7%, Noorder Paarl 84%, Desmond Tutu 70%, Weltevrede 66% and Charleston Hill 68%.
Bridge House had six matrics who excelled with distinctions in the Independent Matriculation Examination.
