Robbers flee with bakkie
2006-01-19
ROBBERS escaped with R6000 in cash and a red Toyota Hi-Lux bakkie, after an armed robbery on Saturday.
The robbery occurred on the farm Alcana in Groot Drakenstein on Saturday morning.
Four men entered the shop on the farm under the pretence of wanting to buy chickens.
One of the men produced a gun and threatened the owner, JP van Wyk.
Van Wyk was ordered to hand over all the money in the cash register as well as his watch and cellphone.
The four men then ordered another customer to hand over the keys of his bakkie.
The bakkie was then used as the getaway vehicle, but was later recovered in Paarl South.
It is suspected that the men fled further by means of train transport, as the vehicle was found near the Paarl railway station.
Anybody with information can phone Insp Lindsay Jefthas at 874-1669.
