Boekpraatjies: Een van die verrassings van verlede jaar is die merkwaardige boek “Kroes” deur Pat Stamatélos. Sy sal Saterdag om 11:00 in Protea Boekwinkel (Stellenbosch) wees om met die uitgewer, Nelleke de Jager, oor dié werk van haar te gesels. Skakel 882-9100 vir meer besonderhede of besoek die webblad by www.proteaboekhuis.co.za. Let asseblief daarop dat daar geen sprekers sal wees op 4 en 11 Februarie nie. Dit is agv die toeloop van studente met die aanvang van die akademiese jaar.

Oude Libertas: ‘Under Andalucian Skies’ word Sondag om 18:00 aangebied en is ’n vermenging van tradisionele en nuwe ‘flamjazz’ deur top SA Flamingo kitaarspeler Saudiq Khan en sy band, Casta Alma.

Comedy: The classic war time farce “See How They Run” returns to the stage one more time with Rex Garner and nine other actors. The Philip King comedy is presented by Pieter Toerien at Theatre on the Bay.

Jazz: “Jazz on Friday” will take place every Friday evening until 31 March at the La Grange Gallery & Fromagerie Restaurant,13 Danel Hugo Street in Franschhoek. The La Fromagerie Jazz Band will play from 17:30 to 20:30 and the cost is R100 per couple which includes a bottle of wine. Cheese platters will be available for R60/platter. Bookings are recommended and the tables will be held until 18:00. Phone 876-2155.

Spier: Cape Town City Ballet presents Queen At The Ballet, choreographed by Sean Bovim and conducted by Michael Hankinson, from 24-28 and 31 January and 1 February. The popular Luciano Zuppa and Duncan Royce perform Freddy Mercury’s vocals and the show also stars Zanne Stapelberg and Aviva Pelham.Gavin Rajah and Malcolm Kluk, amongst others add to the set design with a visually striking array of costumes.

Merry Widow: The vibrant operetta “The Merry Widow” opens at Artscape in Cape Town today. This promises to be a glittering evening of sensuous waltzes and exquisite Parisan couture portraying the decadent nightlife of the Moulin Rouge and its infamous can-can girls. Valiant Swart: The Bistro at Strand Pavilion, Beach Road, Strand presents the original Mystic Boer, Valiant Swart, for one night only on Friday. Shows start at 20:30 with a scrumptious à la carte menu available from 18:30. Tickets R80pp show only. Call 854-4026 for bookings and enquiries.

Jazz: Rus Nerwich has returned from Buenos Aires to once again treat jazz enthusiasts to true listening pleasure. This Trio breaks tradition, following a unique and challenging format mixing double base, saxophone and drums. It makes for interesting musical listening. Every Wednesday night from 21:00 at the M Bar/Metropole Hotel, 38 Long Street, Cape Town. Enquiries at 424- 7247.
Spier: The DDK Lyric Festival, with the lyric group Dimpho Di Kopane will perform in their new venue, at the Lynedoch Eco Village. This vibrant, passionate cast will blow you away with three productions, Ikumkanikazi yeKhephu (The Snow Queen) a South African version of the Hans Christian Anderson’s fairy tale, Yiimimangaliso (The Mysteries) and Ibali looTsots (The Beggar’s Opera) 24-28 January, 31 January-4 February.

Oude Libertas: Vibravo is op 25, 26, 27 & 28 Januarie daar met Jannie Moolman, Rory Rootenberg, Charl van Heyningen en Fikile Mvinjelwa.

Twee Klaviere Konsert: Oude Libertas op Stellenbosch bied 3 en 4 Februarie dié produksie aan, met Nina Schumann en Luis Magalhaes. Terwyl albei gereeld optree as solo-pianiste, is hul as duo bekend vir hul virtuositeit, uitstaande ensemble asook passievolle musikaliteit en ongewone repertorium.
