Welcome green spot to vanish in Paarl?

Welcome green spot to vanish in Paarl?

2006-02-02

IN the rendering of the artist’s impression of Vredenburg ‘Village’ in Paarl Post on 26 January we see an attractive complex, restful with many large trees.

This is anything but the truth. The trees, about 50 of them, are props, while the plum trees will have gone.

Will the developer plant attractive trees or will the sketch be conveniently forgotten?

The only decent-sized stands are a few in Elizabet Street.

The business parking runs the whole length of the property in Main Street, with the entrance opposite 106 Main Street.

Has anybody given any serious thought to the resultant congestion in the Main Street?

Think of everyday traffic in Main Street, plus that of the three ‘business’ blocks.

What kind of ‘business’?

The 104 cars from the ‘Village’ empty into Brug Street then into either Main Street or the Boulevard - adding to congestion.

In addition the cars of the 16 flats to be built behind the garage with the delightful misnomer ‘Village Motors’, will add to the confusion.

Once this project has been approved mayhem will break loose. Not only in the building phase, but forever after.

A van der Walt
