Second Slip for Barnyard

THE Barnyard Theatre at the Bridge House School in Simondium features Second Slip on Saturday.
In Second Slip, Anthony “Lasher” Dawkins is back in the new play from Nicholas Ellenbogen.
Lasher, a retired Bishops school master and his wife Dotty, have been given tickets to the Newlands Members stand as a gift from the Old Boys.
On Dotty’s death, the chair next to him becomes vacant. Enter Dudu Tshabalala, glamorous, bright and ambitious.
She acts like a shot of adrenaline to the old boy; but then, just to really get his juices flowing, the old boy Eric, who sat on the other side of him in the members stand, passes away too.
Enter Bo Eley, Zimbabwe’s top gunsmith now retiring to the Cape. She has bought that seat in the Members stand!
Veteran actress Liz Szymczak was last seen as Sonia in Mud River at the Kalk Bay Theatre. Lindiwe Matshikiza is the granddaughter of Todd Matshikiza, the man who wrote the music for King Kong.
Second Slip will be directed by the old master of light comedy, Andrew Brent. His relationship with the theatre, and with Nicholas, goes back to the 60’s in London, where they performed classics together.
He has now settled in Cape Town, working as a film and stage actor and director.

Devised and directed by the Barnyard Production Company, this proudly South African production will take you on a journey of joy, heartache and emancipation.
It starts off in the swinging 40s and 50s with the music of the pennywhistle, also known as Kwela.
The show progresses onto the period of Kwela Jazz, which was played on the saxophone rather then the pennywhistle, and then moves on to a tribute to Miriam Makeba and the Manhattan Brothers with songs like The Click Song and Pata Pata.
* The Slaley Jazz Festival is on at the Barnyard during the weekend of 4 and 5 March, at R100 per person (Saturday 18:00-23:00 and Sunday 12:00-17:00.
With Slaley Wines and good food comes great music. The line-up include Breakfast Included, DNA Strings, Tony Cox and Steve Newman and Delta Blue. Take the family along and have a swinging time.

Doors open at 18h30 and the shows begin at 20h00.
