THE Santé Winelands Wellness Centre in Paarl won the coveted Conde Nast Traveller (UK) ‘Favourite Overseas Spa Retreat’ award, and was also rated the third ‘Best Spa in the World’ in the 2006 Conde Nast Traveller (UK) Readers Spa Awards.
The prestigious awards were announced in London on 30 January.
Scoring a whopping 97,36%, Santé Winelands followed hot on the heels of the spa which took second place with a score of 97,57% (La
Reserve Geneva Hotel & Spa in Switzerland) and the winning spa, Sereno Spa at the Park Hyatt Goa Resort in India, with its score of 98,18%.
The award was accepted by Sandi Dekker, Managing Director of the Santé Winelands Hotel & Wellness Centre.
She said: ‘Santé Winelands has since inception been a leader in the spa industry, and I believe this award is the result of dedication and hard work, and above all, the warm South African hospitality and passion with which the team at Santé Winelands serve our clients.
“We are honoured to receive these two awards, particularly when considering that our competition included some of the most legendary and renowned spas around the globe.
“To be recognised at this level internationally with what must rate as one of the world’s most coveted awards, is a remarkable achievement for our spa at the tip of the Africa continent, after only two and a half years of operating.’
Santé Winelands counts among its accolades being voted Destination Spa 2005 in the South African Les Nouvelles Esthetiques awards, and its inclusion in the hardcover book ‘World’s Most Fabulous Spas’ by Taschen publishers in the USA in 2005.
It was voted one of the ‘16 Best Spa’s on Earth’ by UK Elle magazine (May 2004) and named Condé Nast Traveller Italy Hot List Top Spa Resort (October 2004). It was the only spa on the African continent.
