THE Drakenstein Municipality signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Tuesday, indicating the Municipality’s intention to join RED One (the regional electricity distributor for the Western Cape metropolitan area).
Drakenstein Municipality has completed a ‘section 78’ investigation, including a process of public consultation, and as a result will negotiate to become part of Red One.
Based on a successful outcome of the negotiations Red One will become the service provider for electricity services in Drakenstein.
This paves the way for Drakenstein Municipality to join the City of Cape Town and Eskom as a shareholder.
