Paarl dashes hopes

THE team of Novel Paarl thrashed Vredenburg/Saldanha with a 148 run victory in their match on Saturday in Paarl.
After winning the toss in hot and humid conditions the home team’s captain Lynal Jansen decided to bat.
Bobby Nicholson and Marco Walters shared a first-wicket partnership of 81 runs in just over 14 overs. Nicholson especially was in devastating form hitting 12 boundaries in his 63 runs off 50 balls.
Wade Anderson (19) and Walters (63 - 5x4) followed with a 51 run partnership before the third wicket fell with the score on 146 in the 36th over.
Zurich Muller (24) and Jansen got together and took the score from 195/5 in the 47th over to 253/6 before Muller lost his wicket in the 56th over.
In the last four overs of their innings Paarl lost three wickets with the addition of only 14 runs.
Jansen played a gem of an innings scoring an unbeaten 51 (4x2, 6x1) in the process.
The visitors struggled with only Shane Summers (3/37) and A Batton (3/38) who were effective.
In the second over of their innings opening bowler Lyndon Fredericks struck twice with the score on 4/2. Fredericks struck again in the fourth over with the score on 16.
The visitors were bowled out for a paltry 119 runs in the 31st over. Rohan Goetham (3/29) ably supported Fredericks who ended with bowling figures of 6/54.
This weekend’s fixtures include Paarl II versus Paarl East II and Paarl III versus Brackenfell both at the Parys grounds.
