MAYHEM in the OR settlement at Mbekweni on Sunday ended in three seriously injured visitors to an illegal shebeen being rushed to hospital.

One of the patients later disappeared from the Paarl Hospital and has been listed as missing.

According to witnesses three men came out of a shack near the railway line and was sitting outside when another visitor stormed outside.

He accused the men of having distracted him while playing pool and attacked one of the men with the pool cue.

The man allegedly defended himself by stabbing the attacker with a knife.

The gathering crowd joined in and stones started flying, with residents of nearby shacks taking shelter in their homes.
When one of the men was grounded, he was attacked with a hammer. The same fate befell his two friends.

Police from Mbekweni, assisted by colleagues from Wellington, Paarl East and the dog squad, struggled for control.

Avril Thomas of St Thomas Street and Denzil Fransman of Komsberg Street, Wellington, are in a serious condition in the Tygerberg Hospital with head and back injuries.

Morné Wilson of Erongo Crescent is still missing.
Lucas Louskut (28) of Lebombo Street has been arrested.

* In another assault in Mbekweni at the weekend, a man was knifed to death when he intervened in an argument between his brother and another man. Khuleso Mlenze (25) of A-Block died. Ayanda Ngqumashe (21) has been charged with murder.
