Poor service at traffic centre
2006-02-23
I REFER to the article in the Paarl Post of 26 January under the heading “Driver’s Licence blues”, in which it is stated that the waiting time for an appointment for a driver’s licence test is about two months.
During November, I had to renew my driver's licence at the traffic department. Lucky for me on that day there were only three clients in front of me.
I was shocked when the client in front of me was turned away when she wanted to make an appointment for a driver’s licence.
The official serving her said that she had to come back in January to make an appointment because no new appointments would be made until January.
Doesn’t the Traffic Department have appointment books?
Because of this there is already an increased waiting period of two months added to the eventual waiting period of about six, which is absurd.
D Smit, Paarl
The municipal spokesman replies: The traffic department reduced the backlog by not taking new bookings over the festive season, and by giving priority to local residents.
