Council meets on Thursday

THE inauguration of Drakenstein’s new Municipal Council is to take place next Thursday in the Paarl town hall.
This event, which members of the public may also witness from the gallery, will start at 16:00.
According to Dr Sidima Kabanyane, Municipal Manager, it is expected that all 61 Councillors will attend, irrespective of whatever agreements and/or coalitions may still take place before then.
The retiring Executive Mayor, Alderman Herman Bailey, will also deliver a short message.
Furthermore, all retiring Councillors, plus the newly elected councillors with their husbands/wives, are invited to attend this auspicious occasion on the political calendar of the Drakenstein Municipality.
During the meeting a new Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Speaker will be elected.
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will at this time also conduct the election of seven Councillors to represent Drakenstein on the Winelands District Council.
