Paarl beats Pniel Coronation

THE first team of Paarl Cricket Club achieved a three wicket win over Pniel Coronation on the Parys Grounds on Saturday.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat on a good pitch.
Both opening batsmen of the visitors should have been out early on, but were given a second chance when both were dropped by Zurich Muller in the first four overs of the day.
Muller did however make amends with the ball taking 4/22.
Coronation were bowled out for a mere 152 runs in the 56th over.
Captain Neil McRae (42 4x6), S Vermeulen (28 4x5) and P Pietersen (20 4x2) scored the runs.
For the home team Anwell Newman (2/25 in 15 overs), Lyndon Fredericks (2/31 in 10 overs), Rohan Goetham (2/40 in 10.1 overs) and Clint Philander (0/26 in 11 overs) were impressive with the ball and helped Muller to restrict the visitor’s batsmen.
Novel Paarl were set to score at 2,35 runs to the over to win the match.
The return of Bobby Nicholson to the team after working commitments kept him from playing was welcomed on Saturday.
He and Marco Walters opened the innings and added 48 runs for the first wicket in just eight overs.
In the 25th over with the score on 97/2 the home team lost their third wicket.
Paarl was coasting to victory, but by the 35th over had lost their seventh wicket with the scoreboard on 130 runs.
The two veterans, Hilton Solomon (20 not out 4x3) and Goetham (4 not out) scored the winning runs in the 41st over.
Steyn (3/37) and D Hendricks (4/69) were the most successful bowlers for the visitors.
This Saturday Novel Paarl is away at Berg River Cricket Club on the Weltevrede sportsgrounds with their final match of the season on Human Rights Day against Easterns.
Paarl III lost at home to Atlantis II by six wickets on Saturday.
Paarl II plays Van der Stel II (Bergzicht) on Saturday and takes on Hermanus II (Parys) on Tuesday. Paarl III will play Maties III (Parys) on Tuesday as well.
