It's time to win again

It's time to win again

WHERE will you be at 10:00 on 8 April? Hopefully at the Paarl Mall, because you stand to win at least a gift voucher, if not some handy cash money.

According to Dr Sidima Kabanyane, Drakenstein’s Municipal Manager, the 8th of April is when those people in the community who regularly pay their municipal accounts, may strike it lucky.

The second prize draw follows after the first one held on 14 December. On that day one lucky account holder literally drove away in a R100 000 car, courtesy of Drakenstein Municipality.

The draw will take place every three months to encourage the community to pay their accounts every month. In this manner Council hopes to regain long overdue money.

According to a staff member working in the Finance Department, the amount by which the municipality’s bad debt is rising on a monthly basis, has started decreasing.

Apparently this is due to the incentive of rewarding regular payers.

This time round the big prize is R50 000 cash, as well as four additional cash prizes to the value of R25 000, R13 000, R8000 and R4000 for consumers whose accounts are fully paid up.

Account holders whose accounts are in arrears, but who have started paying regularly of late, will qualify for another category.

They can wine prizes of R500, R1000, R1500 and the first prize is cash to the value of R2500. A further ten people will also each win an electricity coupon valued at R100.

To ensure that nothing untoward takes place, a Cape Town based professional service provider firm De Loittes has been appointed as observer to ensure a fair and transparent process.

They will make use of a computer on which the names, addresses and accounts of those people who qualify for the draw, have been uploaded.

The new Executive Mayor of Drakenstein, Councillor Charmaine Manuel, will press the “enter” button on the computer, after which it will automatically stop at a consumer’s name, who will then be named as the winner of that specific prize.
