ARE you the owner of a house or building older than sixty years and planning alterations? Are you planning to buy a property, demolish the structure and rebuild?

The Drakenstein Heritage has pointed out that all structures older than 60 years are protected by law.

Any alterations, additions or demolitions to these structures requires a permit from Heritage Western Cape before any of the proposed work can be started.

If you are planning any alterations either externally or internally, including boundary walls, outbuildings, fences, plans show-ing these changes together with photographs of the existing structure must be submitted to the Drakenstein Municipality for their approval.

They have the power to force the demolition of illegal structures.

The Drakenstein Heritage Foundation and the Drakenstein Heritage Officer are available to assist you. Should you require assistance, contact Tony Crake at 872-4486. A nominal fee of R100 will be charged.

You can also contact the Drakenstein Heritage Officer at the Municipality, Chantelle de Kok, on 807-4500.
