Vineyards muddies Eerste River's chances
2006-04-06
THE first team of Vineyards Rugby Club had a bounce in their step on Saturday night following their 20-12 victory over Eerste River at the Dal Josaphat Stadium.
The home team’s forwards dominated in the set pieces, with in particular the loose trio of Matthew de Beer, Abbas Hendricks and Thaamir Moerat making their presence felt with big tackles and strong runs.
The captain and eighthman Moerat was rewarded with a try, with vice-captain Naasief Abrahams (flyhalf) also visiting the try line. Pongas Koopman was successful with both conversions and two penalties.
Although a second try by Moerat got the OK from both touch judges, the referee did not see it and consequently did not award it, judging that the ball was held up.
Vineyards II also won their match 20-12.
Bienjamin Nackerdien scored the only try whilst Anton Snyman added 15 points with the boot.
On Saturday, Vineyards play Perseverance away.
