Retirement village in Wellington

Retirement village in Wellington

2006-04-12

A LOW density, secure retirement village of 142 units is planned in the Blouvlei farming area of Wellington on the farm Uitkyk owned by the Kerr family.

Known as The Olives, it will be developed as an olive producing farm and equestrian centre, complemented by a low density retirement villge.

It will include a frail care centre, a clubhouse with dining room and gym, tennis courts, bowling greens, and swimming pool.

The existing farmhouse and outbuildings will be retained by the current landowners and will continue to be used as an equestrian area.

An environmental impact assessment is currently being undertaken, as Blouvlei is considered a sensitive cultural heritage area near the heart of Wellington.

The architectural style of the proposed development in Berg Street will be based on the Wellington vernacular style and the rural atmosphere will be retained by providing big open spaces.

Olive producing trees will be established on open areas for the production of olive oil.

Stakeholders who would like to register as interested and affected parties can contact Victoria Donaldson of Strategic Environmental Focus at PO Box 6781, Roggebaai 8012, on tel 418-2929, fax 418-6440 or victoria@sefsa.co.za.
