April is blood donor month
2005-04-07
DURING Blood Donor Month, the Blood Transfusion Service appeals to everyone who is eligible to be a blood donor to come forward and give blood.
In the Western Cape approximately 600 -700 units of blood is needed daily to meet the local demand.
Blood donors are urged to support their nearest blood donor clinic and wear the blue ribbon badge, which is the token of blood donation.
According to the Mission of WP Blood Transfusion Service, they provide the safest possible blood products and efficient service to the community.
To meet the criteria you need to be older than 17 years, be generally healthy, weigh more than 50 kg and maintain a healthy (sexual) lifestyle.
Throughout April, blood donor clinics will be held at various venues in the Western Cape. On Thursdays you can visit the local branch in Main Street (next to Mica hardware).
