Draft budget and IDP now available
2006-04-20
A DRAFT review of the Municipality’s Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and proposed budget was recently adopted by the Drakenstein town council and is now available for public comment until 28 April.
The draft budget proposes tariff increases of about R7,6% for a large house (R151 per month) and 6,86% for a small house (about R40 more).
These increases entail property tax (7,5%), water (10%), electricity (4,5%), refuse removal (7,5%) and sanitation (7,5%).
The IDP enables the municipality to manage the process of fulfilling its development responsibilities.
Through the IDP the municipality is informed about the problems affecting its residents. They are thus able to develop and implement appropriate strategies and projects to address the problems.
The IDP helps the Municipality to make more effective use of scarce resources, to speed-up delivery and to attract additional funds.
Four pages on this draft report are published in the Paarl Post this week (see inserted pages).
The draft report is also available for inspection on the municipal website (www.draken stein.gov.za), at libraries in the area, municipal offices, the RDP office, the office of the IDP Manager and the Safmarine Multi-Purpose Centre in Vanwyksvlei.
Any inputs or comments must be submitted in writing to the IDP Manager, PO Box 1, Paarl 7646 by e-mail idp@draken stein.gov.za or fax to 872-8054 and must be received no later than 28 April. For any further information, contact 807-6218/9.
