THE Valley Gun Club in Agter Paarl is hosting the South African Grand this week.
The Grand is the biggest clay pigeon shooting championships in Africa and will incorporate several disciplines of this exciting sport, including the SA National NSSA Skeet Championships, SA National Universal Trench Championships, SA ATA Trap Championships, SA DTL Trap Championships, Mackintosh Postal Championships, Western Cape FITASC Sporting Championships, Western Cape English Sporting Championships and the Western Cape Compact Championships.
The first events will start at 14:30 today, and continues to Sunday. More than 150 shooters will show off their skills in the hopes of winning a trophy or two.
An interesting event is the Down The Line (DTL) Mackintosh event where shots from South Africa will compete against shots from Australia in a “test”.
The results of the South African event is electronically compared with those shot in Australia after which a winner is announced.
Spectators can enter the range for free and enjoy some fast flying and shooting action.
The Valley Gun Club is situated on the R312 between Paarl and Durbanville, 5km from the Phesantekraal crossing.
