THE Christopher Duigan Music Revival presents the Franschhoek Classical Music Festival from today to Monday, with classical music performances in some of Franschhoek’s finest venues.

* Klein Olifants Hoek Thursday 27 April at 19:00: Duo Four IV Two (vibraphone and marimba) play music for marimba and vibraphone in the drawing room at Residence Klein Oliphants Hoek. The duo, Magda de Vries and Frank Mallows, present an imaginative selection of fresh and evocative sounds - sometimes jazzy, sometimes classical for this highly unusual and visually riveting combination.

It includes Mozart’s Piano Sonata KV 570 especially arranged for the duo. Tickets at R350 include a 4-course dinner with wine-pairing and concert for 30 guests only. Call 876-2566 to book.

* Haute Cabriere Friday 28 April at 18:30 for 19:00: Classic yet contemporary, this performance sees visiting British musician Joanne Rozario (clarinet and saxophone) accompanied by Christopher Duigan at the piano.

They will play music for the classical saxophone by Piazolla, Fauré and Grovlez, and for the clarinet, Brahms Sonata in E Flat and British composer Gerald Finzi’s celebrated Bagatelles.

Tickets at R90 include a glass of Pierre Jourdan Cap Classique before the concert. Call Haute Cabriere at 876-8500.

* NGK Church Franschhoek Saturday 29 April at 19:00: The exceptionally talented soprano Angela Gilbert makes a rare appearance in the Cape following performances in San Diego in Lucia di Lammermoor.

Angela, whose recent successes include representation for South Africa in the finals of the ‘Cardiff Singer of the World’ and performances at New York’s Metropolitan Opera House, combines a world class performance with an earthy stage presence. It includes arias from La Sonnambula, Rigoletto and Puccini.

* Bread & Wine Sunday 30 April, 13:00: The Songs You Love, with Federico Freschi (baritone). .is a fun performance for Sunday lunch.
Freschi performs a selection of classics from the musicals, Cole Porter, French and Italian popular songs and celebrated opera arias in an up tempo production.

It includes On the Street Where you Live, I Love Paris, La Vie en Rose, arias from Carmen and Marriage of Figaro and other favourites.

* Haute Cabriere Sunday 30 April at 18:30 for 19:00: Visiting Swedish tenor Leif Aruhn-Solen performs a classical recital including Swedish and French art songs, lieder by Strauss plus operatic arias by Handel and Mozart.

Leif has a particular interest in music from the early Baroque period through Mozart.

* Haute Cabriere Monday 1 May at 18:30 for 19:00: Conclude the weekend programme with a virtuoso performance by top South African pianist Christopher Duigan.

Duigan, who has headed the Franschhoek Music Festival for the past two years, makes a rare solo appearance playing Mozart’s Sonata in F K.333 and the spectacular Mozart-Liszt Don Juan Fantasie.
