Paarl journalist honoured

A PAARL journalist, Reg Weiss, was honoured at the SA Dairy Championships dinner at Stellenbosch for his contribution towards agriculture and specifically the South African dairy industry during 58 years in active journalism.
Weiss is the Western Cape Editor of Dairy Mail and Vice-President (Africa) of the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists.
Duimpie Bayly, President of the Society, presented Weiss with an illuminated address on behalf of the Cape of Good Hope Agricultural Society adding his name to the Society’s roll of honour as part of the 175th celebrations of the society and citing “his contribution to the dairy industry in South Africa, his enthusiasm for dairy matters, complemented with objective journalism.”
Weiss said that he was deeply grateful for the award, but the honour was really due to his colleagues in agricultural journalism who had served the agricultural community so faithfully for many years.
One of South Africa’s greatest assets was its agricultural expertise, built up over a period of some 300 years.
Agriculture stood for peace and for progress and the authorities needed to recognise the value of that expertise, so badly needed for assisting the rest of the African continent, he said.
