R70m development in Pastorie Avenue
2006-05-04
THE Drakenstein municipal council has approved a R70 million redevelopment of an existing block of flats, Vooruitsig in Pastorie Avenue, by Johan Pauw of JEP Property Investments. It will be known as Dwars-in-die Weg.
The existing building will be retained, while additional flats will be constructed to the west and the north, making a total of 76 luxury apartments designed by architect Sakkie Rust.
A total of five storeys will be erected including five penthouse apartments, while a swimming pool and entertainment area will be erected on the roof of the original building, surrounded by a roof garden.
Flats will vary from bachelor flats for about R400 000 to larger flats for just under R1 million. The penthouses will sell for just under R2 million. They will vary from 140 to 160 square metres in size, including balcony area and will be accessed via a private lift.
The development will include a total of 940 square metres in retail area (existing and new shops fronting on Main Street). The project includes the purchase of the southern section of the square in front of the Afrikaanse Taalmuseum by the developer, to allow sufficient parking for the project.
The 91 secure bays will include 38 secure bays on ground level and 53 in a basement section under the square and under the new building to be erected.
Two older buildings, Kannaland in Pastorie Avenue, and the small barn which houses Rottang & Bamboes in Main Street, will be retained and renovated after the necessary permits have been issued by Heritage Western Cape.
Heritage Western Cape has endorsed the historic impact assessment completed for the development.
