Vineyards snap up victory in dying minutes

A TRY in the corner by wing Anwar-Shuhail Moerat, with seven minutes remaining, secured a 17-14 away victory for Vineyards Rugby Club against Strand Pioneers on Saturday.
Vineyards went in to the half time break trailing 14-12 with tries by captain Thaamir Moerat (eighth man) and Moegamat Patel (prop).
The kicking boot of John Koopman added the extra two points. The highlight of Vineyards game was the defence in the second half with frantic tackling especially from the flanks Mathew de Beer and Wasfi Nackerdien. Strand threw everything at the visitors in the last 10 minutes, but turned over possession turned into a counter attack which led to the try by Moerat.
Vineyards II won 10-0 with tries scored by Michael Albertyn and Igeraam Ikie.
On Saturday Vineyards play Young Standards in a local derby match game at Daljosafat Stadium.
