Guesthouse wins

AMONG the winners in the 2006 AA Travel Guides Accommodation Awards announced at the Tourism Indaba in Durban was the Akademie Street Guesthouse in Franschhoek, winner of the prize for best B&B small guesthouse.
More than 33 000 consumers commented on approximately 1 100 AA Quality Assured or star graded establishments across the country this year.
Establishments which received gold awards after being nominated by international tour operators are Grande Roche Hotel and Santé Winelands in Paarl, and Le Quartier Francais and La Residence at Domaine des Anges in Franschhoek (see www.aatravel.co.za for more).
Winners were judged in categories such as self-catering resorts, bed & breakfasts, township accommodation, game lodges and different types of hotels. Guests commented on aspects such as service levels, ambience, food and the general quality of facilities.
