Houses for Hermon
2006-05-11
COUNCILLORS of the Winelands District Council recently undertook a tour to visit new projects in the area.
This includes the Hermon housing project which will create 122 serviced housing opportunities, securing tenure in the form of ownership to the beneficiaries, and will include the construction of 93 new houses in addition to the existing houses.
The project was initiated by the Hermon community (represented by the Hermon Housing Committee) with the assistance of the Cape Winelands District Municipality a number of years ago.
Several consultants were appointed to assist with the project of which Lyners Consulting Engineers are the lead consultants.
After a lengthy delay the project was re-initiated by the Cape Winelands District Municipality two years ago.
To secure the land for the project, the CWDM entered into a Land Availability agreement with the Executors of the estate of the late Mr PPL Abrahamse for the remainder portion of the farm Rondeheuwel to develop the Hermon housing scheme.
An adjoining portion of land was also acquired from the Provincial Housing Board for the project and has already been transferred to the CWDM.
The project is jointly funded by the CWDM and the Provincial Department of Local Government and Housing.
The civil services (both bulk and internal) have been installed and it is foreseen that construction of the top structures will commence during this year.
