Culinary Academy moves to Paarl

Culinary Academy moves to Paarl

2006-05-18

A DECADE of servicing the food industry with top class chefs is no mean feat and the Culinary Academy (TCA) has reached this milestone with a proud reputation. Now this well-established school goes into the next decade with a brave new move.

From January 2007 the school will relocate to the Backsberg Wine Estate just 12 km from Paarl.

If you have the dream of being a chef and want to get started in the industry as soon as possible, then the July intake will give you the experience of both working and studying in the city as well as completing your course in the winelands.

The unique partnership of Backsberg and TCA offers students the chance to study the one-year Advanced Food and Wine Diploma course in a new, heart-of the country environment where safe and secure accommodation will be offered and where the distractions of city life are few.

“Backsberg Estate is fast expanding its areas of interest and the synergy of relocating the school with the improvements on the estate was too attractive to miss. There is no doubt that this move will stimulate and enhance the creativity and practical instruction that the school is renowned for,” says Rebecca Hurst, principal of TCA.

A state of the art school is under construction on the prestigious estate with accommodation for about 20 students and the joint venture will serve two purposes: on the one hand allowing students to study in the perfect creative environment and on the other the chance to understand and appreciate living and working on the land.

Just imagine...pursuing a chef’s career in the heart of the winelands and living on a wine estate. Harvesting, tasting and understanding the wine making process, planting and watching your own vegetables grow - knowing that your dishes contain the freshest produce and are made in the healthiest surroundings.
