Objections to office park

Objections to office park

2006-05-18

THE residents of Gant Street, De Zoete Inval, are strongly opposed to the proposed office park planned in the street.

Twelve individual letters of objection from the immediate area, have been handed in at the Paarl Municipality, together with over 150 names on a signed petition, objecting to the development of part of the farm De Zoete Inval for this purpose. The zoning is already in place.

According to the objectors, the density of the development is too high, with 43 factory units and 200 parking bays on 1,9 hectares.

Says one resident, Johan van Niekerk, “The factories will completely obliterate any view from our homes. The first row of factories is approximately 14 metres from our street, and a minimum of 9 metres high.

“With the big roller doors open, we will be looking straight at any workers, and vice versa - our privacy will be totally destroyed and our property values will be adversely affected.

“A couple of months ago, a block of flats proposed for Frater Street was turned down, as it did not fit in with the residential area - why then 100 yards down the road, can an industrial site now be proposed?” he asked this week.
