Cultivaria will put Paarl on the map
2006-05-25
A HOME-GROWN event to market Paarl as a premium venue for entertainment, culture and adventure: this is Cultivaria, that will take place from 21 to 25 September.
According to organisers Gerhard Meyer and Uys van der Hoven, Cultivaria is in the first place a marketing tool for Paarl, where residents and the business community can showcase the town and surroundings to visitors.
The event will include art, drama, comedy, ballet, opera, music (classical and popular) and sport.
The sports programme will include cycling, running, golf and squash and X-treme activities such as absailing, paragliding, rock-climbing and downhill bike racing.
Children will also be well catered for with a secure playground. Faure Stadium will house a tent for 2000 people, three buffet restaurants an a cheese emporium.
The excellent selection of centrally located venues in the vicinity of the stadium will be used for cultural events.
They include the town hall, and the halls of Paarl Boys’ High, Gymnasium Primary, La Rochelle Primary and High School.
“Paarl is the third oldest town in South Africa, with the most declared national monuments per square kilometre.”
“Paarl has the charm, character and history and we have the will to make it happen!” said Meyer.
The name Cultivaria is a combination of the word culture and cultivar (representing the links with the wine industry), as well as varia for the variation of events that will be presented.
There will be no free stages, flea markets or tented accommodation. There will, however, be craft markets.
* A meeting for principals of secondary and primary schools in Paarl will be held on Monday at 17:00, at Oude Paarl Hotel in Main Street.
Every principal may also bring along two teachers.
Schools will get information on how to become involve in the event and how to generate money from it.
All enguiries can be directed to 872-9754.
