THE Frank Pietersen Music Centre in Paarl is eagerly preparing twelve of its most talented music students and three teachers to attend the fifty year celebrations of the Gebrüder Graun Music School in the Elbe Elster region of East Germany.

This visit takes place from 5 to 15 July 2007, when the Frank Pietersen Music Centre will be the guests of the German Music School’s festival.

In addition to many concerts, functions and visits to schools and institutions, the Frank Pietersen Music Centre will also form part of the weekend music festival of the music schools of the Brandenburg Province. Here about 2000 musicians and singers will meet.

As this is such an important and exciting endeavour, the Frank Pietersen Music Centre has launched a competition to determine which musicians will represent Paarl in Germany or will be Paarl ambassadors in Germany.

A partnership was formed with the German Music School during their 10 day visit to Paarl in 2005. This was initiated by the former mayor of Drakenstein, Herman Bailey.

The first round of the competition takes place on Monday 29 May in the Music Centre Hall at 17:00. Here, a maximum of 20 finalists (from 29) will be chosen to proceed to round two, which takes place on 9 October.

The competition is open to the public and entry is free. Please come and support this worthwhile event and exciting programme of music from Paarl’s budding young musicians.
