Jesus Christ Superstar for Paarl Rotary

Jesus Christ Superstar for Paarl Rotary

2006-06-01

THE highly acclaimed musical Jesus Christ Superstar, created by the magical genius of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice, will be staged on Thursday 29 June at the Theatre on the Bay under the auspices of the Rotary Club of Paarl.

This is another fundraiser for Rotary’s Community Care Centre in Paarl (their Centennial Project), currently nearing completion.

The centre, of which the construction costs alone amount to approximately R2,5 million, will provide a much-needed haven where abused women and children can be accommodated, counseled and otherwise cared for until a more permanent solution can be found for them.

Jesus Christ Superstar is staged by the same team that was responsible for the highly rated presentation of the popular musical Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat last year - Paul Warrick Griffin (director), Keith Anderson (designer), Timothy le Roux (choreographer), and Charl Johan Lingenfelder (musical director).

The musical is based on the last seven days of the life on earth of Jesus of Nazareth, seen through the eyes of Judas Iscariot, the disciple who betrayed Him.

Three decades after its first Broadway opening, its “enduring relevance and emotional pull” continues to engage audiences all over the world.

The challenging role of Jesus is played by Cito Otto. Cito was born in Los Angeles and spent most of his childhood in an Hispanic Christian community in New York before emigrating with his family to South Africa during his teenage years.

The irreverent Judas Iscariot will be played by well-known performer Robert Finlayson, back in South Africa after appearing abroad in lead roles in Fame, Miss Saigon, the Rocky Horror Show and recently the role of Raoul in Phantom of the Opera on London’s West End.

Following his appearance in Cats and Joseph, Capetonian, Anton Luitingh, takes the part of Pontius Pilate and Candida Mosoma, who recently appeared in Joseph and Life at Centre Stage, plays Mary Magdalene.

In addition, by attending this popular musical, you will be making a much needed contribution to our very worthy charity project.

Tickets sell at R250 per person. Limited seating (only 220) is available and, accordingly, early booking is essential.

Bookings with Elsabé Koch at 073-301-2425, fax 874-2849 or email elsabe@donkerhoek. co.za.
