Not true, says project manager
2006-06-01
I READ in your edition of Thursday May 16 2006 that you refer to “the increase in crime (in Franschhoek) has been attributed to the Berg River Dam Project which has caused an influx of strange people to Franschhoek”.
It is true that there are a few highly qualified engineers and managers that have moved into Franschhoek in order to build the dam, however exception must be taken with regards to strange when one takes into consideration the nature of a tourist area such as Franschhoek.
MD Moody, Project Manager BRPJV
* The allegation was made by several Franschhoek businessmen, who did not intend accusing the Berg River dam’s employees of criminal activity, but rather the threat posed by “those who flock to the town in search of possible employment at the project”. - Editor
