Paarl struggles with weather, form
2006-06-01
THE Paarl Soccer Club has had a tough time of late in accumulating qualification points for the prestigious Castle League under the auspices of Safa Boland.
On Saturday, Paarl was scheduled to play against Saints of Wellington at the Weltevrede Sports Grounds. Due to the weather creating unsuitable underfoot conditions, however, the game had to be abandoned and will be rescheduled for a later date.
Sunday saw the match-up between Paarl and Mbekweni United at the Boy Louw Sports Field.
The two sides were pretty evenly matched throughout with both sides attacking without any success in the first half.
In the 80th minute, Mbekweni United was awarded a free-kick on the edge of the 18 yard box of the home side. Siyabulela Koyi, the visitor’s midfielder, produced a stunning kick sending the ball sailing past the otherwise reliable goalkeeper, Martin Minnaar, for the only goal of the match.
This coming weekend Paarl travels to Jamestown for a match scheduled for 15:30. All supporters are requested to travel with the team for some moral support.
On Sunday Paarl will play Young Stars at the Boy Louw field at 15:30.
* The executive committee of the Paarl Soccer Club wishes to extend its gratitude to those who came to watch the European Champions League final at the clubhouse.
The club will be gearing itself for the upcoming Soccer World Cup Competition with special focus on the matches of Brazil, England, Holland, Italy, Ivory Coast and Germany.
