Vineyards almost loses it

THE decision to rest several key players almost cost Vineyards Rugby Club their game against Raithby on Saturday.
After the impressive win away from home over Kylemore last week, Vineyards looked a totally different team and struggled to beat the visitors on Daljosaphat Stadium in front of the biggest crowd that the club had in the last five years.
The home team entered the half-time break trailing 6-3 after a penalty from John Koopman. The score stayed the same until 30 minutes into the second half when Koopman again succeeded with a penalty goal, making it 6-6.
The coaching team then sent up three rested players - Wasfi Nackerdien, Jody Carolissen and Thaamir Moerat - who ultimately made the difference. With five minutes remaining, Raithby slotted a penalty and started celebrating, but Vineyards took a quick restart which resulted in a line out that was stolen by replacement lock Thaamir Moerat.
With the time ticking away Vineyards set up ruck after ruck and eventually spread the ball wide for Carolissen to score in the corner. Koopman added the extra points and Vineyards could celebrate their 13-9 victory.
Saturday, Vineyards play Riverstones in Paarl.

Hoewel die telbord op ’n oortuigende sege dui, kon die besoekers vier of meer drieë gedruk het, was dit nie vir verkeerde besluitneming nie.
Soos die saak staan, het die Paarliete net twee keer agter die doellyn gaan kuier.
Gardens het voorlangs goed sy man gestaan teen die sterker pak van die tuisspan.
Dinge loop egter steeds nie klopdisselboom in die agterlyn nie, met die senter-kombinasie van Christopher Fortuin en Ainsley Anderson wat mekaar nie kan vind nie.
Tino Prince en Fortuin het die drieë gedruk, terwyl Prince ook sukses behaal het met die doelskoppe, ’n skepdoel en een strafdoel.
Ander spelers wat ook hul hart uitgespeel het, is David Philander, Louis Moses en Jacques Hendricks.
