All-woman quartet at Nederburg

CAPE TOWN’s popular all-woman musical group, the Ace Quartet, heralds in the annual Nederburg Concert Series with a performance of classical music at the historic Nederburg Manor House on Sunday at 17:00.
A highlight of the local classical music calendar, the Nederburg Concert Series takes place one Sunday a month from June until October.
This coming Sunday sees the Ace Quartet playing a selection of music by Mozart, Haydn and Mercadante.
The quartet comprises Carina Bruwer on flute, Este Visser on violin, Annemi van der Merwe on viola, and Ariella Caira on cello.
Quartet leader Bruwer is also a celebrated cellist. Her vision for the Ace Quartet is that it will serve as a conduit for bringing Western-based instrumental music to a wider audience by using their unique talent to appeal to both connoisseur and novice alike.
Tickets for the concerts are R125 and include a delicious finger supper served with fine Nederburg wines.
* The concert on July 9 will feature the renowned Cambridge-based Fitzwilliam String Quartet who will play works by Blake, Glazunov, Shostakovich and Haydn. They will be followed on August 20 by internationally acclaimed cellist, Natalia Khoma.
She will be accompanied by one of the world’s leading pianists, Volodymyr Vynnytsky, and they will play works by Rachmaninov and Franck.
The concert on September 17 will see celebrated soprano Zanne Stapelberg singing a classical programme to the accompaniment of pianist Francois du Toit.
The final concert of the season on October 29 is a lunch-time picnic concert and will feature Zamar who will perform their own works as well as a selection of popular classical works.
The concert starts at 12:00 and will be held on the gracious lawns in front of the Manor House.
