Exhibition on skills training

“WE open a door to the things we are afraid to face alone.
Unknowingly we help one another to find strength in what we were going through,” said one of the participants of a support group for abused women run by the Athlone House of Strength (Ahos) in Paarl.
She spoke at an exhibition of the handicrafts made by 21 women who attended a support group run over ten weeks earlier this year.
The project is aimed at abused and unemployed women who receive group support and learn a variety of crafts.
Ahos also initiated a sewing training programme this year, where professional training is provided in industrial clothing manufacture.
The articles made by the sewing project were also on display.
The sponsors of the projects, British American Tobacco Company and the South African Wine Industries Trust (SAWIT), were thanked and certificates were awarded to participants.
Women who are unemployed, and have experienced abuse, can contact the centre manager, Fiona Brophy, at 872-7518 if they are interested in joining the next support and crafting group or want to find out about other training available
