2006-06-22

THE first round of the Drakenstein Local Football Association league came to an end last weekend.

A total of 21 teams are currently busy with play-offs for a place in Safa Boland’s Super League which gets under way in August.

After the play-offs the top two teams will be promoted to the Super League, with the remaining teams having to play in the local league.

Meanwhile 36 teams are busy battling it out in the play-offs for the Castle League.

Of these 36 teams, 13 are from clubs in Drakenstein.

The teams lying in the top 15 spots will stay on in the Castle League, whilst the next 12 teams will play their soccer in the Boland Super League.

The bottom seven teams will go back to playing in their respective local leagues.

At this time only Drakenstein, Stellenbosch and Breede Valley have a local football association in place.

Plans are however underway to get similar structures in place in the district of Witzenberg and Breede River.

Third is Mbekweni United (17), followed by DC Rangers (16), Paarl Soccer Club (16), Park United (15), Juventus (14), Seabirds (13), City Killers (10), Carterville United (9), Wellington United (9), Young Juventus (9), Root Rocks (8), Silverhills (6), Paarl Pirates (6), FC Athletico (4), Brazilian Kids (4), Wellchester (0), African Jaguars (0), TK Lions (0) and Gouda United (0).
