Learners at language festival

SEVERAL local learners represented the Western Cape at the SA Schools National Language Festival in Pretoria recently.
The event was organised by the Department of Education as a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the youth uprising in 1976 and the 50th anniversary of the women’s march in 1956.
The theme was ‘Age of Hope - through Struggle to Freedom’.
The festival focused on poetry, debate, public speaking and other performing talents of the 1000 learners from the nine provinces.
The aim of the festival was also to increase dialogue between cultures and to reinforce links between the youth.
