Cheese fest next week

Cheese fest next week

2005-04-21

HUNDREDS of cheeses, tens of food fundis and magnificent cheese creations are in the offing at the cheese occasion of the year – the 2005 SA Cheese Festival.

The festival – which runs from Friday 29 April to Monday 2 May – promises to attract a multitude of gourmands from far and wide to the picturesque Boland farm, Bien Donné.

A world of cheese – the largest collection ever under one roof in Africa – awaits cheese chasers in the Cheese Emporium and rustic open-air Cheese Market.

More than 300 cheeses – reflecting the entire cheese spectrum available locally – will be snuggling up to their ideal partners: bread, wine, olives and other finger-licking delicacies, for pecking or purchasing.

Stack picnic baskets to the brim with yummy new discoveries and head to the Market Square for an al fresco adventure. Put your feet up, let the soothing sounds from the Ladismith Music Gazebo and autumn splendour of the Boland enchant you.

Still hungry or thirsty? Take a stroll down the Gourmet Lane – lined with top restaurants and wineries.

Come and see what’s cooking at the LG Cooking Pot where cheese maestros will be preparing lip-smacking dishes every hour on the hour.

Festival tickets are R70 per person.

Wine-tasting glasses are available at the entrance for R5 each.

Discounted tickets for senior citizens will be available at R40 for Friday 29 April only. Children under 12 will be admitted free of charge.
