Informal seminar
2006-06-29
THE Stellenbosch University Language Centre will be presenting an informal half-day seminar on “Communication, culture and the image of my company” on Thursday 20 July.
Within the corporate context we often make the mistake not to pay enough attention to the image we project through our communication.
In part, this issue has to do with the fact that we do not keep our readers, and the culture groups they belong to, in mind.
When we communicate, we need to have answers to the following questions: * What image of our company do we want to portray to our readers? * How do we make allowances for the culture, attitudes and values of these readers? * Does internal communication amongst colleagues of different culture groups cause misunderstandings? * What do we need to pay attention to when talking about culture and managing an image? * Why is “officialese” or the imperative voice often used?
This informal half-day seminar will serve as an introduction with specific focus on the problems associated with managing an image through written communication.
The cost is R375, and only 20 participants can be accommodated.
The seminar will be presented from 13:30 until 16:30 at the Stellenbosch University Language Centre, 24 Crozier Street, Stellenbosch. The seminar will be presented in English.
The closing date for registrations is 11 July. Registration forms can be sent to Maretha Joyce at: fax 808-3676 or e-mail mjoyce@sun.ac.za.
Complete details and registration forms are available on the web site: www.sun.ac.za/taalsentrum/EVD.
