Swift response
2006-06-29
THE swift response of members of the Mbekweni and Paarl police ensured that five suspects were arrested and most of the stolen goods retrieved after a burglary.
The Kleinbosch guesthouse in Dal Josaphat was plundered in the early hours of Thursday morning last week, after one of the doors was kicked open by the suspects.
Thousands of rands worth of electrical appliances, a camera and binoculars was stolen.
That same afternoon, Sgt Marthinus Smit of Mbekweni received information about four suspicious men who had been seen hiding goods amongst the bushes, and then were presumably waiting for potential buyers along the road.
Smit called in reinforcements from Paarl and confronted the men. Thereafter they searched the area for the stolen goods and most of the appliances were found hidden in bushes about 30 metres from where the men had been waiting.
After further investigation a fifth suspect was arrested at Schoongezicht farm on Monday. All the suspects are also from Schoongezicht.
