Moreson wines shine at foreign show
2006-06-29
THE Môreson winery outside Franschhoek recently received international awards for its two flagship wines: the Magia (a Bordeaux-style blend), and the Premium Chardonnay.
The Môreson Magia 2002 won one of only 13 Gold Medals at the 2005 Wine Style Asia Awards, at the Wine for Asia Expo held in Singapore late last year. And, at a tasting conducted by a German website www.sa-weine.de - Weinführer für Südafrica, the Magia 2002 scored 90 points (out of 100), the equivalent of 4 and a half stars.
The Môreson Premium Chardonnay 2004 recently won one of only 60 Gold Medals at the Chardonnay-du-Monde competition, held in Burgundy, France.
Chardonnays from 936 wineries were received from 37 countries. La Motte and Golden Kaan also won Gold Medals. This year no Gold Medals of Excellence (the highest award) were awarded.
Anton Beukes, General Manager of Môreson, says,"We are happy to receive affirmation for our more elegant style of wine, in which we seek lower alcohols, softer tannins and fresh fruity flavours.”
And on the local show circuit, at the recent Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 2006 (previously Fairbairn Capital), Môreson’s Cuvé Cap Brut N/V (a unique blend of Pinotage and Chenin Blanc) received a Silver medal and was the highest-scoring Méthode Cap Classique at the Show.
In its five-year history only one Gold Medal has ever been awarded to a MCC.
